Woodlands Nursery

My youngest son is already 2 1/2 and I started writing this before he was born, but never posted it. But today I am!

Once I found out we were having another boy, I started looking for nursery inspiration knowing that our at-the-time office would be transformed into a baby room. It took me awhile to decide on a theme, but eventually I chose a Rustic Woodlands Theme with neutral colors.

Colors

I thought about doing white walls because its crisp and clean and matches with anything, but then I found some white birch tree wall decals that I wanted to incorporate. I decided to go for a beige color on the walls, but I soon learned it can be challenging to find the “right” beige color for a north facing room that doesn’t get a lot of bright light.

My mom was gracious to do all the painting and it took some trial and error to find a beige without a rosy undertone, but in the end we decided on Benjamin Moore’s Manchester Tan.

Furniture & Decor

Once the walls were painted, I got started on the decorating phase—the fun part! I gathered items here and there, but before anything went up on the walls, I wanted the larger pieces of furniture in place like the crib, dresser, and rocking chair. I’m thankful to family {and my handy hubby} for assembling furniture and helping with set-up.

The mountain shelf, baby bear plaque, little explorer print and animal print were all Etsy finds and the frames came from Hobby Lobby.

I lettered the Adventure Awaits sign and the wooden plaque was a Hobby Lobby find. I also lettered the Jeremiah 1:5 verse, not only because it’s a fitting verse for a baby nursery, but because we knew his name would be Jeremiah and I wanted at least one Bible verse in his room.

I was so excited when I found a set of rustic looking reclaimed wall bookshelves on Zulily. They are a great space-saver and can be harder to find, but I’m so glad I found these ones!

The tree stump poof was another piece I found on Etsy. I filled it with Poly-fill and topped it with some forest friends to add a soft touch to the room. It could also be re-stuffed to become a bean bag.

Other little details like the end table came from Wayfair, the bedding and changing table cover came from Carousel Designs, the muslin (super soft) bear swaddle blanket came from Spearmint Love, and some of the wall decor came from Hobby Lobby.

Picking a Name

And then the name sign!

Names are important to me and I wanted our newest baby to have a meaningful name that honors God. When I was pregnant with my oldest, I looked through all the baby name lists but nothing really got my attention. Before finding out that he was a boy, I woke up one night unable to sleep so I opened up my Bible and landed right at the beginning of the Book of Micah—and then I knew. I shared the name with my husband and he liked it—and then we both knew.

Jeremiah has been a name I’ve like for a long time and it might have been Micah’s name had I not opened to the Book of Micah that night. But perhaps God planted that name in my heart because He knew that I’d have not just one, but two sons.

It took my husband and I some time to decide on a name and I looked through name lists once again, but eventually we came to an agreement on Jeremiah John. Jeremiah means “exalted of the Lord” and John means “God is gracious”. Jeremiah is one of the well known prophets of the Old Testament who was faithful to deliver the message God gave him. Two of the most notable Johns in the New Testament were the Apostle John {the disciple whom Jesus loved} and John the Baptist {son of of Zechariah and Elizabeth who endured a season of infertility}.

I had some different ideas for name signs, but eventually found some custom made wooden signs on Etsy by ProjectWoodsy. They kindly worked with me to make sure the name sign came out just right and it did.

It fits perfectly in his nursery!

Piece by piece this room came together and hope this offers a little inspiration if you’re looking for some ideas for your little one!
