For Just a Moment

Time keeps ticking and my little boy, full of curiosity and joy, keeps growing taller. I wonder who he will become as the pages turn. I wonder what details will be written on the chapters of his life. And while sometimes the days feel long, these little boy moments are going all too quick.

For just a moment, I pause—so I don’t miss the beauty of being his mama.

Something will always be calling loud for my attention, but I only get this day and this moment one time.

For just a moment, I let go of the cares dancing around in my mind, and admire my son dancing around with eyes full of wonder, a heart full of adventure, and a smile glowing bright. As I watch him receive the simple things as gifts, like a tall blade of grass or a fresh blanket of snow on a winter morning, I remember that this is the way to choose joy and contentment.

For just a moment, I watch him jump and climb and run with not a care in the world, and my Good Father whispers to me to take notice because this is what it means to be a child of God.

To be a child of God means you’re free to be who He created you to be because the opinions of the world don’t define your worth one ounce. It means fear no longer owns you, because God shields you with His powerful love. It means you have a Father who will always welcome you with open arms and will never abandon you. It means you have the kind of faith that can move mountains, the kind of faith that believes in the impossible. It means you’re filled with unshakable hope because even though brokenness is all around, you have assurance that nothing will thwart God’s perfect, beautiful plan.

Better things are coming, this you know, because from the beginning of time God’s plan has always been to give us the very best.

For just a moment as I gaze in the eyes of my child, I better understand why Jesus welcomed little children while He walked the earth—why He did and does love them so.

People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them. ~ Mark 10: 13-16 {NIV}

For just a moment, for many moments…

I will delight in being Mama to a child who is teaching more about the beauty of being a child of God.

  1. I love how you remind me to appreciate the moments. Our kids are to the ‘accelerating years’ and I’m glad you aren’t missing out on enjoying your (possibly tedious) years!
