Construction Themed Birthday Party

collageI am excited to be back in the blogging world today after a short absence, and I am even more excited to share this post! It seems like just yesterday I was holding my little 7 pound newborn in my arms for the first time, and last week he turned 2…Where does the time go?! Well, I wanted my special little boy to have a special 2nd birthday celebration, so I decided to do a construction theme with lots of trucks. My son is “ALL-BOY” and this theme just seemed to fit him. I worked on the details for this party over the course of a few months. It took a lot of planning and time, but I had a blast putting it all together!

FIRST, THE DECORATIONS…

Birthday Sign BlogFor the Happy Birthday Banner I traced different sizes of circles onto card-stock and then cut them out by hand. A circle cutter would come in handy for this, but I made do with regular scissors. I drew the dump trucks and cut them out as well.  I found some black stick-on letters at Hobby Lobby that I used for the words. Then I assembled the banner with a little glue, a hole punch and some ribbon.

diamond signs blogI made these diamond-shaped signs with yellow card-stock. Yes, I stocked up on card-stock for this party ;). Free Printable Below!

Door Sign BlogI made this welcome sign for the front door by printing the words on orange card-stock. I completed it with a truck and some more card-stock. Free Printable Below!

kid table blogI set-up a kid table with some hard hats {from the dollar store} and some construction trucks that I found on Amazon.

ONTO THE FOOD…

Table spread blogI looked around on Pinterest for inspiration for this party, and I found several creative ideas for the food.

Dessert Table BlogEvery food had a “construction” related name.  I made the food labels with card-stock, mason jar labels and truck stickers.

nuts and bolts blogNuts and Bolts = Trail Mix, Lumber = Pretzel Sticks, Pebbles = Recess Pieces

Boulders BlogBoulders = Grapes

wrecking balls blogWrecking Balls = Nectarines

build a sandwich blogBuild-a-Sandwich = make your own sandwich

rocky road and spare tires blogRocky Road= Marshmallows dipped in chocolate and nuts

Spare Tires= Mini Chocolate Donuts

fuel station blogFuel Station = Drinks

cake collageLast but not least…the cake! I made a marbled chocolate and yellow cake to mimic black and yellow caution tape. I decorated the cake with dirt {a combination of cake crumbs and crushed snickers}. I found a set of mini construction trucks on Amazon, and I used one to top the cake.

Tools blogOf course, “tools” to eat it all with! Free Printable Below!

  1. Wish I could have been there–very creative. Micah looks much older than when we saw him. love, grandma

  2. Looks like he had a fun party! I remembered you mentioning planning a themed party before in a recent comment…everything turned out great! :). I especially love how all the food related to things found at a construction site. So clever!

    1. Thank you! It also looks like your party for your son turned out great too! I accidentally clicked something by your picture and it made me unfollow you…oops, but I immediately followed you again. I blame my silly phone ;). Sorry for that confusion! Thanks for your kind words. Blessings to you!!

    1. Unfortunately I can’t find the copy of these labels that I made, but I will try to recreate some and add them to this post in the near future. They aren’t hard to make!

For now though, I can tell you how to make them if you are interested:

First you will need to buy Avery Labels Product #22818. Then you can create the labels here and they aren’t hard to make: http://www.avery.com/myavery/selectdesign.do?rpp=10&displyName=Round%20Labels%20-%20Brown%20Kraft&Ntk=All&pN=0&Ns=Rank

      1. Once you go there click on “select & customize”

      2. Off to the right you will want to click “Edit One” You want to edit one at a time since each label is different.

      3. Then set the font to “Ashley Crawford”

      4. Then click “Add circular text” Then some curve like icons will appear. Click on the one with the curve that looks like a “smile” and also click the 2ND “ABC curve (the text under the curve).

      5. The you can “Type Your Text” and sometimes you have to delete the “type your text” for some reason. Click somewhere outside the text box and it will add you text.

      6. Then move onto the next one by clicking on the 2nd label. Just keep editing one at a time until you are finished.

      7. I bought some construction truck stickers which I found at Hobby Lobby and also Target—and added them to each label.

      Hope this helps!
